Candidates nominated for the general election thus far total 3045, compared with 2130 and 2705 for the years 1939 and 1924. The total, with the arrival of papers posted before midnight, is expected to reach 370(1 It is vostimated 150 to 100 out of 012 scats will he filled by firstballot on. Sunday, when the only candidates successful will be those having a majority over all others. The majority rule does not apply to the (second, ballot on Sunday April 29. when the candidate wins who obtains the largest number of votes. . Candidature is an easy process in France, hence in some places there are from ten upwards for a single seat, and no fewer than 700 for 59 seats in Paris and suburbs. M. Poincare addressed only a conple of representative gatherings of electors, who prefer to read candidates’ views, hence the popularity of huge posters in which the wieldor of a vitriolic pen is the rnos; successful.
M. Frank Boullon says Al. Poincare’s majority will be 340. Among the Ministers only M. Painleve’s seat is considered doubtful.
