SOCCER
POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION The weekly meeting of the Poverty B’ay Soccer Association was held last evening, Mr J. J. Macdonald presiding. The chairman explained that although this was also the weekly meeting of the executive the meeting had been convened to see whethere were enough available players lo form a Thursday competition. He stated that if Thursday games cc:.ld be arranged, it would stimulate interest among the public in . soccer and also be the means of getting new players. * Several enthusiasts bad approached him asking him to form a Thursday competition, and he suggested that a practice game be advertised for to-morrow, and if there are sufficient players present a competition could be formed. On the chairman’s suggestion Messrs Elements, Hill , and Venables wore appointed a sub-committee to make arrangements for a game tomorrow and also to canvass for Thursday players. A letter was received from tin. Borough Council inquiring whether a soccer match could be arranged for Saturday with the men of the Veronica.
The chairman said he had arranged that a Poverty Bay team would meet the visitors on Saturday afternoon.
The chairman’s action was confirmed.
The- players selected' to represent Poverty Bay against the Veronica’s team are as folows: Goal, J . Elision ; backs, J. McLean ’ ahid Gh Clark; halves, RJ. Waugh, E. Woodrow, A. Mclveoii; forwards, H. Sincoek, J. Watt, G. Graham, A. Waugh, and J. Hair. Reserves; D. Watt, Cooper and Barker. Mr J;. Miller was appointed referee and Mr A. Baker linesman. "Any of the selected players not available are requested to notify the chairman immediately.
