KAITI STORMWATER.
DRAINAGE SCHEME APPROVED A WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED The provision of istornifvater drainage in Kaiti was -the subject of a report by a special committee, who investigated the position, presented to the Borough Council last night. The report stated the engineer' submitted a scheme, of improvement to the present, system, *a drain running through the property of Mr Little,, and thence along C)wen road, and emptying into what is known as Seymour’s Creek, the work to cost about ,£1250. Whilst not completely remedying the flooding this scliqme would greatly alleviate the troiihle,, and is inexpensive in its cost. ' , It was eventually .decided to recommend the adoption of the ;suggested scheme, and to communicate with the Cjoolc, County, Council inviting them to contribute towards the cost, and if tins could ,he nfranged tlib f committee considered that , tlie work would . he eminently . suitable' for unemployment ; relief, apd the Government subsidy oh labor, would probably be obtained.' The question, of flooding by stormwater, on Kaiti has been .in ,§xistence for a loiig tiiiie,.” added tffe ieport, “and it is earnestly, hoped that the scheme now submitted .by the engiiieer will remedy tlie evil;. ..excepting . in, the ease ( ;fof a water spoilt of abnormal' raids. ' “The Council’s share of the cost ■might .be, taken, from thp stormwater loan,' as by diverting^the water from coming across, ,thq, Kaiti flats tlie Stormwater drainage of the Kaiti portion of the .-borough will be. materially cheapeiied, -and the district will receive the full benefit by this exiiendituTe.” , , , , Tt was decided that; the stormwater drainage cpmhiiffee should- confer with, the Cook County Council. \
