' - Pleas of guilty were entered in' the Police Court “by Robert Joseph Charles; Draper,-aged 17, who appeared on remand on six charges arising out of an accident in Karangahape road on February 25. Accused was charged with converting, a .motor-car to lias use, ‘and with being in a state of intoxication' while in control of • a ear. He also admitted, having; no license and driving -a car negligently in Karangahape road, .besides two further . counts! of; damaging a cat arid a verandah, in the. course., of the car’s career along Karangahape road David Thompson was knocked down, and as the result of his. injuries, he was confined t-o Auckland hospital for some time. ,_ / . When' pleading leniency on Draper’s behalf Ml 1 . Sullivan said the youth had never been, in trouble before. He? had taken some whisky and had “gone-mad.” Expenses at the hospital nad totalled £25, said Sub-inspector McCarthy. Besides, Thompson's suit had been damaged. Mr. F. K. Hunt S.M., said he! was prepared to give accused a chance. Draper was convicted of riegligent driving, and was directed to pay £35 to Thompson at the rate of 15s a week. On each of the other five charges accused was convicted and discharged. -
