AUCKLAND'S TKORQIT;IIFARE& SHOW SIGNS- OF WEAR,

SUGGESTED PATCHING WITH BIT'UMEXL

(Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, -June 13.

There is likely to lie much subsequent trouble if the line concrete roads of Auckland arc- not, closely watched. It is a boast of champions of this excellent surface that it- reduces care to a minimum, but all the same it requires more attention than it is getting in some quarters.

A correspondent of the Star points out that even in the city parts of the roadway are already showing signs of wear. He- specially points to a road whore ono feels a distinct bump at joints between the sections of the concrete, and the . edges are a,h;-u beginning to show signs of wear. An that is needed, .says the motorist, is that the interstices lie filled with bitumen. When these roads are first laid down bitumen filling is always put in, but after some months’ use it seems io work further down, and leaves the top of the interstices barn. This should be attended to from tirno to lime, otherwise excellent roads V, ill scon become cracked, and in addition to being uncomfortable to rido on will ( a.use much expense.
