QUEER ADDRESSES
- THE POSTMAN’S JOB . (Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND. Juno 12. Apropos of tile “Star’s’’ article on the daily round of Auckland postmen, and the queer addresses they sometimes have to decipher, an Onelmnga. resident, yesterday, produced a letter that gives point to the story. It was an American letter from tlm homo of business etficioncy, and all that sort of thing, and the add res? read “Mrs Blank, Superior Rd.. OnoIninger, Auckland. N.Z.” Unerringly the- missive went to the right house, which was in Taperiri Road. Needless to say. in Ouohungn, there was. nothing very hard about the, “Onellunger” part, which is an ancient joke, hut identification of- the street was net so ease. People used to dictation will see liow the strange address.came to light. Obviously tho manager was dictating to his .tvnist. and to American cars the Maori would sound rather like the name of a big' lake- on the borders of the States. “Onahungor” explains itself, but. force is led to the translation from the fact that the letter was from a firm that dealt in something to- eat
