Coincident with Captain St. Domain’s thrilling trans-Atlantic crossing, winch officially was regarded as foolhardy because he removed the floats, a giant air liner circled London on the first pleasure cruise,’just as a pleasure steamer might round Svdney harbor. This tells a story of the amazing advance of aviation. Giant planes converted into sleeping cabins will soon be operating regularly in London and on the Continent. Experiments are progressing with seaplane services for the same route, alighting on the Thames. , Several big department stores in London are showing aeroplanes in their windows for private sale. Lloyds have introduced an air arrival and departure list, and many citizens already own private planes, which are utilised daily for the purpose of coming to London and returning from business.—A.N.Z.C.A. AIRSHIP SERVICES WILL UNITE EMPIRE -PERMANENTLY. BRITISH EXPERT’S ADVICE TO CANADA. DOMINION TO PURCHASE MOORING MAST. (Received May 8, 5.5 p.m..) OTTAWA, May 7. “The development of commercial rigid airship services throughout the Empire will do more to unite it permanently than any other endeavor," declared Major G. H. Scott, British air expert. He said investigations into all the problems presented was being conducted by the British Government with a 1 ic-v to uniting the Empire. Two great airships with five .pillion cubic feet gas capacity, would aid in eliminating the distance between all sections of the Empire. They could carry a hundred passengers and a quantity of freight. These would be forerunners of greater ships n the future. The time saved travellers from England to Canada would he three or four days. Major Scott is in Canada m an advisory capacity. . The Minister of Defence, Mr Ralston, announced that authority lias been given to purchase in Britain a head mooring mast to he erected in Canada for the service.—A.N.Z.C.A.
