AUSTRALIAN WOOL SEASON. In a circular dated March 17th, Winchcombe, Carson Ltd., wool brokers, Sydney, report that at the end of February 2,278.892 bales of wool had been received at Australian wool stoics for this season. The great •bulk of it had been sold, and the firm expects a ready demand for any wool available between now and .June next. It gives the average price obtained for wool during the season at practically 17d a lb. It is mentioned that the combined quantities of the wool offered in the last two .years amounted to more than 5,000,000 bales, aim exceeded the amount sold in any other twoyear, period by about i,01X1.000 bales Such figures were unprecedented in Australian wool history. To enable the raw material to he absorbed in such quantities manufactured goods must have been bought freely, otherwise mill owners would not have found it possible to go on obtaining money to meet'purchases. The conclusion is drawn by the firm that the Commonwealth so Jar is not growing too much wool. The attitude of the. United States textile trade is regarded as perplexing. That country is prosperous, yet business in the woollen mills does not move with proper freedom.
