It is understood that Air. H. H. DeCosta will not stand for re-election either for the Hospital Board or for the Borough Council.
Parents summoned at Northampton for failing to send the daughter to school, stated that the child had been suffering from : —Tubercular trouble ; gastro-enteritis; measles; bronchitis; nasal and bronchial catarrh, nervous debility. The girl has now, however, been declared fit to attend school.
A visitor at a hc*ise in Cuckfield, Sussex, was told by the girl who answered the knock that: 1 ather was lying dead in a room upstairs. Alother was” dying in a room on the ground floor. *ln addition, a brother and sister were seriously ill with pneumonia.
A.t the annual meeting or the Potertv Bay Rugby Union last evening, a departure was made from the custom hitherto of having only one patron, it being decided that two patrons should be elected this year. Messrs. A. B Williams and IL J. Larry were elected to this office.
Speaking on behalf of the players generally at the meeting of the P. 8.R.TJ last evening, Air. K. Woodward expressed appreciation ot the line work done by Air. W. S. AlcKee, the Union secretary, during the past, season, and proposed that a motion of thanks be passed to Air. Aic-Kee. This was carried with acclamation.
At the annual general meeting of the Poverty Bay rtugby union last evening, tie Chairman (Air. A. o. Parker; referred to the loss, by deatn, during the year of Sir James Carroll. Mr. T. Alt-Gee ban, “Big Mae and Haenga, and moved that the meeting snould pass a vote of condolence to tlie relatives of these p.ut supporters of Rugby. Sir Frederick Halsey, father of Vice-Admiral Sir Lionel Halsey, Comptroller of the Household and Treasurer to the Prince of Wales died at Gaddesdcn Place, Kernel Hempstead, at the age of 88. He was a prominent Freemason, and until last year was Deputy Grand Alas ter of England. He was Provincial Grand Master of . Hertfordshire for almost 50 years. For many years he sat as Conservative ALP. for Hertfordshire constituencies.
