A Sun cable from Singapore of yesterday’s date states that Cobliam has left Penang for Rangoon.
Dr. Haigli, examiner for the Associated Board, R.A.M., and E.C.M., will probably arrive in Gisborne an October 4 to conduct a practical, examination of the Board.
The election held on Mondry under the direction cf the Department of Agriculture for representatives of , the producers on the Fruit Export Control Board resulted: AuckhmdTaranaki district., H. S. Izard 51 votes, Frank Firth 50; Canterburj-Nelson-Marlborough district, H. it. Stephens 163, EL T. James cth Messrs Izard and Stephens were declared elected.—P.A.
Mr A. T. Markman, secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, has resigned the position and accepted that of general manager of the Pacific 'Cable Board for New Zealand. He has been 35 years in the Government service, and became secretary three years ago. .In the ordinary course, no doubt, Air G. AlacNamarn, assistant secretary, will succeed him. The creation' oi the post Mr Markman now takes is looked upon as a presumption that the Pacific Cable Board expects a big expansion of New Zealand business as soon as the cable is duplicated, which should be well before the end of tho vear.—P.A.
