ENDS IN RIVER!

’ (Special to the Times.) TE KARAKA, Sept. 8. , Last Saturday Constable Leckie. of To. Karaka, was informed that a Maori, Paratene Wi Repa, was creating a disturbance in the streets of the township. On the constable’s appearance Wi Repa, who had been indulging in drink to excess, became defiant and a tussle followed between the pair. Ultimately Wi Repa took to his heels and a long chase ensued for more than an hour. Finally the pursued reached the river, and, in one last ‘effort to escape, jumped into the water. Constable Leckie waited on the bank and a wot and muddy Maori at last came out of the river and submitted quietly to arjost,. - . —• . ■
