AN INDIAN CONSPIRACY
MAHARAJAH MAY BE TRIED BY FELLOW PRINCES. (Received Jan. 25, 11 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 24. The Daily Chronicle states that Sir John Simon recently visited (India in connection with the Viceroy’s demand upon the Maharajah of Indore to justify himself before Indian Princes and in view of the Mumtaz Reum for conspiracy. . Sir J. Simon, K. 0., and Mr Patrick Hastings, K.C., will probably be counsel for the Maharajah if he appeals to a commission of his fellow Princes as the King’s counsel advise that there is no evidence to associate the Maharajah with the conspiracy. , . The precedent for an appeal to the Princes is the trial of the Gaekwar of Baroda. fifty years ago, as a sequel to a poison case..—A. and N.Z.C.A.
