RACE ON THE RIVER

The Gisborne Swimming Club will hold its fourth river race of the season on Thursday next at 5.15 p.m., the course selected being between the railway and Ivaiti bridges. Three world records, held by Johnny Weismuller, were broken at Buffalo last evening. Walter Laufcr, of Cincinatti, clipped two-fifths of a second off the 100 yards backstroke, which bo swam in Imin ssec. Then, without stopping, he went ICO' metres further in Imin 11 l-ssee., compared-with Weismuller’s Imin 12 3-ssecs. Ulatter Spence, of Brooklyn, swam 100 yards breaststroke in Imin 9 2-55., establishing a new record by a full second.—A.N.Z.C.A.
