PROTECTION OF ANIMALS
£500,000 FOR A REFUGE MUST BE IMMUNE FROM MOLESTATION (Received Jan. 24, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 23. Later details of Mrs Lovegrady’s will show that the residue of the estate will be devoted to the foundation of a Beaumont Animals’ Eenevolent Society. Beaumont was the testator's maiden name. The will stipulates that the society shall acquire an island or islands and, failing his, a suitable locality on the mainland “to provide a refuge for all animals, birds and other creatures, not human, where there must be immune from molestation and destruction by_man.” The society may establish and endow hospitals and homes for animals in Britain, provided no viviseotionist is associated with the management. This means that practically the entire fortune of half a million will be devoted to animals protection.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
