VESSELS IN PORT. —At the Wharves.--Maroro, t.s. War Lord, t.s. Joseph Sims, t.s Elsie Mary, t.s. NOTES. The Arahura arrived from Napier at G. 30 a.m. yesterday and was tendered at 7 o’clock with the launch for inward passengers. The launch for outward, passengers h ft the wharf at 7 o’clock last evening, after which the steamer proceeded on to Napier. Returning here to-day, she will he tendered with one launch for inward and outward passengers at 7 p.m. (meantime), leaving for Auckland direct later.

The Wanaka commences loading at the Bluff on Monday next for Napier and Gisborne, via Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru.

The Wingatui loads at Lyttelton about Monday next for Napier, Gisborne and Auckland, via Wellington. ’Flic Hororata, from Wellington, arrived at Monte Video on April 17 and sailed the following day. She carried a quantity of Gisborne meat. 'l'he Hertford, with Gisborne cargo, sailed from Wellington on April 25 for London, via Panama. The Awahou arrived from the Coast and Auckland yesterday morning, and sailed the same evening for the Coast and Auckland. The Ripple should arrive from Napier this morning and sail in the evening for Wellington. The To Aroha. which was due from Port Ahuriri this morning, will not arrive. Her visit has been cancelled. The Putiki should leave Westport this week-end with coal for Waikokopu and Gisborne. The Port Bowen is due here this morning from Napier. While here she loads meat, wool and tallow, before proceeding to Tokomaru Bay and Auckland. The Elsie Mary sails for Auckland to-day with general cargo. The Huanui is due from Auckland towards the end of next Wi'ek. She has a cargo of benzine. The War Lord is expected to sail for Auckland to-day. The Joseph Sims lias now nearly completed her loading of white pine, and she should clear early next week for Tasmania. The Maroro should sail next week with timber for Sydney. TRANSPACIFIC CARGO SERVICE. The Hanraki from Newcastle via Sydney left Auckland on Tuesday. May 6, for Fanning Island and Vancouver. She loads at Pacific Coast Ports end of May and early in June for Wellington, Bluff, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. The Waiotapu from Newcastle via Suva leaves Honolulu this week for Vancouver to load at Pacific Coast Ports in May for Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney. The Wairuna from Pacific Coast Ports sailed from San Francisco ou Friday, April 18, for Wellington, Newcastle, Sydney and Mel bon me. She is due *" at Wellington about Wednesday, May 14. The Waikawa left Wellington on ! NEW ORIENT LINERS

20000 TONS: 1250 PASSENGERS

The Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, Agents for Orient Line have received cable advice from Sydney that the Orient Company have contracted with -Messrs* Vickers. Limited, for another steamer of the same design as Orma and Oronsay, now building. This third new steamer is to be delivered in 18 months and thes throe vessels with Ormonde will provide thereafter a fast monthly service. Particulars of Grama and Oronsay appeared recently in the Press, and are as follows: Length 630 feet, beam 75 feet, depth 47 foot. They will have twin screws, and be fitted with geared turbines using oil. instead of coal, ns fuel. Their gross tonnage will approximate 20,000 tons which is equal in size to the largest steamers at present running to Australia. A feature in the new vessels will he the great number* of single berth cabins in the saloons, for a total accommodation for about 600 passengers, about 250 will he accommodated in single berth cabins fitted in the most up-to-date manner. Ample provision .is also being made in connection with third class traffic ns these vessels will bo able to carry with every comfort up to about 1250' passengers. These vessels will be fitted with the most up-to-date working appliances and space for. general cargo will bo considerably in excess of that in the steamdrs at present running.. There will he. accommodar tion in .insulated holds for close on 4000 tons of refrigerated cargo..
