EVERYBODY’S THEATRE.
KATHERINE MACDONALD IN “REFUGE”; “LIGHTS OF, NEW YORK.”
“The Lights of New Y r ork,” the William Fox super-attraction, and “Refuge,” the First National feature, drew a large assemblage to Everybody’s Theatre last- night. The story showed that there were many poisonous dangers behind the glitter of a Bohemian life in the great city of the United States. Some of the scenes were gay indeed, and others were in l l of sadness. The story lias been divided into two sections. The first deals with rhe experience of a youth who was left-, when a baby, on the doorstep of an East Side pawnbroker. Clarence Nordstorm is cast as the adopted son of the loan agent. In the story he returns to his'father’s store, after ho lias left home, and joins a gang for the purpose or robbery. In is only when lie realises the consequences that lie abandons his shameful life and returns to the fold. In the second episode, the 'story of a man who lost his fortune and has descended into the depths is told. Marc Macßermutt is cast in the principal role. In the second 'feature, “Refuge,” the marriage ceremony was completed. She was a countess; he a ragged French soldier. She did not even know his name, for at her request he ,had used that of the man with whom she had eloped and who had been felled by an unseen hand. Dramatic moments such as this characterise the latest Katherine MacDonald picture “Refuge,” in which the star wears some magnificent gowns. Tne Mermaid comedy “Three Strikes ’ fully maintained its reputation as a comedy amongst comedies that is a comedy. These attractions will be repeated to-night.
