DOMINION AWARD SOUGHT

WELLINGTON,May 7. An application by the New Zealand Federated Plumbers and Gasfitters’ Industrial Association of Workers for a Dominion award was before the Conciliation Council today. Applications for exemption were made on behalf of the Christchurch and Wellington Gas Companies, New Zealand Freezing Companies, and Wellington Harbor Board, and after argument were referred to the Court. It was urged by the Union. that gas companies were in competition with ordinary employers, and what was wanted was to be able to call the men out after hours and pay them ordinary rates, while in such circumstances an ordinary employer would he required to pay overtime. Freezing companies were also at times in competition with other employers.—P.A.
