WOMAN’S PLUCK.
SINGS ON STAGE TO PREVENT
FIRE PANIC.
, With the ‘ theatre resounding with shrieks of “Fire!” and dense smoke gradually filling the auditorium, Miss Molly Grey remained on the stage of the Gaiety Theatre, Manchester, and, singing without falter, prevented a panic in a crowded house. The fire broke out in the kinema operator’s box during the showing ot a film. The automatic shutters were at once closed and the fire was localised. There was no danger to the audience. Two reels of film were burned and the resultant smoke created alarm among the people. Miss Grey went on the stage, advised the audience to keep smiling, and then went on with her song. Very soon, however, the fumes and smoke made the theatre untenable, and, with the aid of the police, all the people were got- safely out.
