N.S.W. ALLIANCE.

REV. R. HAMMOND RESIGNS. THE BURDEN TOO HEAVY. The Rev. R. B. S. Hammond has resigned his position of honorary campaign director t-o the New South Wales Alliance, which he has filled for the past- seven years. _ln the course of his letter conveying his resignation to the committee Mr Hammond said:

“For some years I have protested against the Alliance so cheerfully and indifferently imposing upon me the burden of campaign director and chief money-raiser in an honorary capacity. “I have been president, campaign director, and chief money-raiser for seven years. During that time I have held or presided at over 1-300 prohibition meetings, addressing some 259.000 people, and raising £35,000 for prohibition for New South Wales and the Commonwealth. “X am more than a little tired of hearing all that the Alliance does not do, and of its unpopularity. It would be well for tlie executive if they knew wliat the Alliance lias done in l the last few years, and how it has grown in popular favor. “From a staff of four in 1915, we have grown to a staff cf 25. The income has risen from £ISOO to £ll.000 per annum. In the last four years I have donated in cash £4SO, and loaned, without interest, £l5O. In addition to this. I sold my motorcar and published my book. ‘With One Voice,’ and sold 60,000 copies for the prohibition cause —without any return for the cost to me. Further, I have in seven years spent on hospitality to oversea and inter-State visitors nearly £IOO. “In the last seven years the Alliance funds have amounted to over £55,000, as against £13,000 in the previous seven' years.” Mr Hammond then proceeds to outline a number of imoortant achievements of the Alliance, including six o’clock dosing.
