It is not now likely that the Federal Government will accept the suggestion for the burial of an unknown Australian soldier in Australia. The fact that there is no place in the Commonwealth that stands out. beyond compare as do London .and Washington in regard to the British Empire and the United States Republic respectively is chiefly responsible , for the fact that the matter is to he dropped as regards' Australia. It has been pointed out that tlie tomb of the unknown warrior should bo in a place to which annual pilgrimages could conveniently be made. If Canberra were chosen as a site it would be too far removed from the Australian centres of population. and it is feared that if a proposal were made to establish the tomb in any of the State capitals it would give rise to jealous heart-burnings and unseemly squa.bbliinrs that in relation to such an undertaking would be very deplorable. So the Government does not propose to adopt the suggestion. >( JVhy can A. Stoneham and Co. sell diamond rings cheaper aud better than other people?
