(Received Feb 27, 12.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 26. Miss Bessie Grandemange easily retained the title of champion lady sprinter of Australia, defeating Miss Maude McDermott over TOO yards in 11 4-osee.
A CHARITY FAIR MELEE. PERTH, Feb. 26. As a result of a melee, which started at a Charity Fair, a crowd of three hundred fought and kicked a dozen policemen, who eventually dispersed the crowd with their batons. Three police were injured. Several arrests were made.
WAGES, REDUCTIONS PROTEST. HOBART. Feb. 26. . The proposal by the Government to reduce the salaries of public servants has aroused a storm of protest and the formation /of one big union of Government employees, including rail way men and teachers to fight any reduction which may be suggested.—U,P.A.
