HYDRO-ELECTRICITY
.PROPOSED SIMULTANEOUS DEVELOPMENT IN N.Z.
INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION’S VIEWS.
*; WELLINGTON, February 23
The fear held in Auckland that the Government is neglecting tlie interests of that district to the advantage of those in the South in regard to liydroelectricity was referred to- at the Industrial Corporation’ll conference by Mr.. F. XV. Hills, one of tlie Northern delegates. “AVe don’t begrudge those districts that already have liydro-elec-trical schemes,” said Mr. Hills. “AVe say more power to them, but we do want to see something done at Arapuni.” He moved that the Government ‘be urged to proceed with, the development of hydro- - electric power simultaneously in all parts of the Dominion, so that primary and secondary industries may have every advantage in competing with foreign countries.
“A\ 7 e should see that a fair deal is given to Auckland in the interests of the whole Dominion,” remarked Mr. R. Frostick .(Christchurch). “Auckland has the power. There is no doubt about •that, and the Government should make it available at the earliest possible moment.”
Delegates from all the other provinces heartily supported the motion, which was carried unanimously.—P.A.
