NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS.

ATTRACTIVE FIXTURES

Innumerable attractions of a varied nature will be open to the public during the New Year holidays, and the Gisborne public should have little difficulty in spending an enjoyable time. On Monday next there are several sports gatherings, all of which should prove very popular. The motor cycle sports at the Park racecourse will doubtless attract a large crowd, the lengthy and varied programme, for which large entries, including many outsiders, _ have been received, being sufficient to ensure good competition. On the * same day the Te Karaka annual sports will be held, and, as usual, the promoters have done .everything to ensure, a successful meeting. Special train arrangements have been made, and the day will conclude with a social in the evening. At Tologa Bay the Uawa Bacing Club will hold a sports meeting on the racecourse. There are in all twenty events, the majority of which are horse races of different descriptions. Large entries are anticipated and it is generally considered that the meeting will ho one of the most successful ever held in the district. The plain and fancy dress masked carnival to be held on the Waikanae beach on Monday evening, under the auspices of the Beach Society, bids fair to be one of the most attractive displays ever held in Gisborne. The Society is successful in everything it undertakes, and the fact .that it is making special efforts to ensure the success of this carnival, is sufficient guarantee that it will, indeed, he everything that is claimed for it. The City Baud and a jazz hand will he in attendance, and there will be innumerable sideshows, the gold mine, skittle -alley, dancing, etc., until a

lat-o liour. Other attractions will be held on the beach throughout the day, and, in view of the suitability of the tide, it is expected that the Avro aeroplane will make a large number of flights. Commencing on Saturday, and continuing during the week, the Gisborne Tennis dub will hold a tournament, for which there are large entries, and there is every indication of keen competition. A musical comedy season will he opened at the Opera House to-mor-row night by the O’Connor Company The picture theatres are arranging for special programmes during the holidays. The motor services are conducting trips at holiday fares.
