BUBONIC PLAGUE.

ANOTHER DEATH IN BRISBANE

(Received Dec. 29. 11.5 p.in-) BRISBANE, Dec. 29. Another death has occurred from plague in Brisbane.—U.P.A.

When Sydney was threatened with a severe epidemic of pneumonic influenza the whole population was masked and gagged. Looking back upon that period, and recalling the strange spectacle, one wonders at the docility of the people. It was facetiously remarked that Mr J. D. Fitzgerald, then Minister for Health, was the only man who had ever succeeded in gagging Sydney, the women, and all. Today we are considering the plague fashion '‘hat came in at the first visitation, ?Iy, bandages above the ankle, w malm tablets a—oeiated therevr, , m order to prevent tie fleas .from climbing. The womenfolk are not going to adopt anything so crude. It is all very well for men, who have the bandage hidden by a garment, but to place a bandage round a beautiful silk stocking that rises from out a dainty shoe—that is something that no woman who values h°r appearance will do. That decision is all very well .now, but if the plague does become alarming, they will no doubt get over the difficulty by wearing a bandage that is made ornamental. Already smart people who are engaged in catering for women are considering this, and have models in chaste designs of anklets that can be medicated. It might k eventually become popular to incorperypt ate an Indian gold band in the ank'et v —Melbourne Argus.
