LOCAL POLICE FORCE.
I (To the Editor.) Sir, —I understand a petition lias been drawn up and largely signed by many of the prominent business people of this town, including the Mayor, to have Constable Culloty reinstated in his position of actingdetective. I am, like others, at a loss to understand why such a brilliant and popular young officer should be used only for uniform duty. It is quite evident when the petition reaches the right quarter, the Department will order an inquiry to be held. It appears to me that too many crooks are taking root here of late Many of the citizens here would preferably have seen him promoted te, the post of detective owing to his undoubted qualifications. How-, ever, the Inquiry Department will most certainly do justice to Constable Culloty when his records are examined. Appreciating the arduous work he lias done for all lawabiding citizens in the past, and trusting he will receive credit where credit is due, I am, yours, etc., “FAIR, PLAY."
