FRANCE’S BUDGET.

GOVERNMENT MAY FALL. TROUBLE OVER COST OF LIVING. (Received Oct, 6, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 5. The Daily Express Paris correspondent stdtes that France’s 1922 budget is an obstacle to M. Briand’s going to Washington and may cause the government’s fall. There is a deficit of one hundred million sterling. The financial committee of the Chamber of Deputies claims that the special allowance to government officials, which is costing the country 28-4 millions annually, should be stopped before new taxes are created or loams floated. The government, at- first, approved of tins, but now say that the cost of living has not fallen sufficiently to justify stoppage of the allowance. If M. Briand goes to Washington he will only . remain a fortnight. M. Viviani will then head the French delegation.—A. and N.Z.O.A.
