NIUE ISLAND MURDER.
DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED. WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. The case in which a native, Maiu, was sentenced to death for the murder of a policeman at Niue Island was reviewed by the Executive Council. Sir F. Bell, Acting Prime Minister, announced that the death sentence had been commuted to imprisonment for life.—P.A.
