WAR IN ASIA MINOR.
SECOND PHASE OF'GREEK OFFENSIVE. TASK BECOMING MORE DIFFICULT. (Received Aug. 9, 11 p.rn.) LONDON. Aug. 8. The second phase of the Greek offensive has begun in Asia Minor. It commenced with an attack of the north left, the Turks, outnumbered, retiring. The struggle '.promises to be long and bloody. The Greeks’ task is becoming more difficult as they advance. The losses in the late fighting are unknown, bn: probably they are fairly equal on both sides. Turkish, deserters are constantly surrendering.

In consequence of Turkish attacks upon foreigners on the AsiaMinor coast Greek warships bombarded Trebizcnd Samsun and other ports. The effect is unknown. —A. and N.Z.C.A.
