TROUBLE OVER CARUSO’S WILL ROME, Aug. 8. Extensive litigation is expected to arise owing to Caruso’s habit of making a new will almost monthly. It is reported that the Sorrento will, dated a few weeks ago, which was found under a pillow in the death chamber, has now disappeared. It is alleged that before the officials arrived to seal the. effects millions of lira worth of jewellery vanished. The story goes that mysterious people shadowed Caruso from the date of his arrival in Italy.
NATIONAL SAVINGS. LONDON. Aug. 8. The . National Savings Committee reports forty-five millions sterling worth of certificates have been sold in 1920, compared with seventy-nine millions in 1919. The total sales since the inauguration of the scheme in 1916 amount to 341 millions, the total repayments at sixty-one millions. including thirtv-one millions in 1920.—A. and N.Z.C.A. (Received Aug. 8, 8.55 p.m.) Immigration officials say that they will ask Congress to amend the immigration law in order to allow the admission of more Australians and New Zealanders. Residents of the Pacific Coast have been asking 'for the admission of more Australians on the ground that they make a fine type of immigrant.' Only fifty New Zealanders and 211 Australians are admissible annually under the present arrangement and the officials wish the minimum to he 1200 for any nation. This increase will only add between two and three thousand to the total annual immigration.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
