WAR INDEMNITY.
DOMINION’S SHARE 25 MILLION
SHOULD GOODS BE TAKEN AS CONTRA?
WELLINGTON. Aug. 9. New Zealand’s share of the German reparation payments, according to figures included in the official report of the Imperial Conference proceedings, will be 1.75 of theEmpire’s share. The total payment is to be £6,600,000,000, of winch the British Empire receives 22 per cent. New Zealand, therefore, will he entitled to about £2o ,000,000 but, of this him, only £500,000 apparently is likely to be immediately available. Mr Massey may have something interesting to say re-o-arding this money. It might suit New Zealand to take payment from Germany in goods such as railway and hydro-electric equipment, as if these goods were supplied on tfie basis of current exchange rates, the transaction would be a very profitable one for the Dominion, though there might be something to be said against it from the point of view, of the British manufacturers.— Special.
