PRICE OF BUTTER.
MARKET VERY FIRM AT HOME
WHAT WILL BE LOCAL
CHARGE?
WELLINGTON. Aug. 9. A committee representing the butter producing interests is to meet in Wellington to-morrow to consider conditions governing the supply of butter to the local market after the etui of this month, when the Government’s subsidy has ceased. Reports from London show that the butter market is very firm, latest quotations .for New Zealand being 2s 3i|d to 2s 4d per pound. Both official and private advices indicate that no early reductipn in the British wholesale price is to be anticipated and it is quite possible that the. price will mount higher. The ihasis of the local price, in the absence of a subsidy, must ho tlio export value, lnit there are details to be considered, including profits of merchants and of retailers. The committee is likelv to place its views before the Minister for Agriculture before it makes any public announcement.—Special.
