LAND VALUES PROBLEM
MORE EQUITABLE VALUATIONS URGED.
WELLINGTON, July 28. The committee set up by the New Zealand Farmers’ Conference to-day submitted the following recommendations :—That in future, for the pura more equitable validation of rural lands and improvements thereon, the Farmers’ Union be allowed to nominate a representative with knowledge of local values to assist the Government valuer; that due notice served on 1 every property owner when a valuation is about to be made; that the whole of the Dominion should be re-valued periodically and all such valuations bo given effect to simultaneously; that in the event of an appeal the appellant should have the right to appoint an assessor to the Assessment Court. Mr. Flanagan, ValuerGeneral, was present. He said the system of appointing an assessor to assist the valuer would be brought into operation again. Tho question of bringing all valuations into operation on one day was for the Commissioner of Taxes. The committee’s recommendations were adopted.—P.A.
