SHIPPING DISPUTE
AUSTRALIAN TROUBLE COST MEN OVER £1,000,000.
MANNING TO BE DECIDED BY SPECIAL COMMITTEES.
MAHENO TO LEAVE FOR AUCKLAND TO-DAY.
(United Press Association-Copyright.) (Received Feb. 26. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 26. It is estimated that over. £1,200,000 has been lost in wages, in consequence of the shipping strike. The settlement provides that no question of manning is to ibc raised regarding ships not being put into commission immediately. The manning question will be decided by a Manning Committee, equally representing shipowners and the seamen. This committee will be constituted by March 1 at the latest, and its decisions will be binding on both parties. A conference on suggested alterations of the present general agreement as to wages and conditions will be held within a. fortnight. The agreement is to continue in force until December 31 or until mutually determined The recommissioning of . ships will proceed as quickly as possible. Arrangements are being made lor the despatch of the Maheno for Auckland on Monday afternoon. —U.P.A.
