A DRAW

“JIMMY” CLABBY AND “TOMMY UREN.”

SPLENDID CONTEST AT HASTINGS.

Bv Telegraph—Suecial Correspondent. • NAPIER. April 28. There ivas a very large audience in the Hastings Municipal Theatre last night for the 15-round contest for a purso of £550 between “Tommy” Uren (Australia) and “Jimmy” Clabbv (IT.S.). When the pair last vjpot in the same ring [lron gained ■Liu' verdict by a narrow margin. Last night’s event was keenly anticipated by supporters of each, and the result showed how very evenly jftjfic pair is matched, for after the contest had gone the full fifteen rounds the referee could not separate them and| his award was a draw. Both men entered the ring in tht> pink of condition. The referee did his host to keep the fighting open by compelling the boxers to break from clinches and this appeared to be to the disadvantage of Uren, who scored most of his points in the infighting. Both men gave, as before, a thoroughly scientific exhibition, dabby's work was more spectacular, and when the last round commenced his supporters loudly proclaimed what they thought was his pending victory, but Uren had been unobtrusively piling up points by his superb defence and fine work at close quarters.

Prior to the big event a. number or amateur bouts were decided, the results being—H. Gunn 'Tim’aru) 8.12 beat J. Carr (Wellington S.l3^-; K. 0. Neale (Wellington) 10.12 beat R.
