A meeting of jockeys of Manawatu distiict tit- the races this week decided to withdraw from the Jockeys’ Association. .ft is stated that this has now been done, and about 15 or 20 riders are affected. AUCKLAND. April 23. The jockeys who resigned front the New Zealand Jockeys’ Association at Palmerston North on Thursday have addressed the following letter to the secretary of" the Association: —“AYc beg to tender our resignations as members of the Association. Wc are taking this course on the following grounds: Firstly, we were assured when we joined that there would be no affiliation with smv other body ot workers. We were also given a promise- by the secretary that we would only he known as an association and not as a union. W<- then-lore resent the failure to carry out these promises and beg to resign.” DISPUTE BEFORE CONCILIATION COUNCIL. RIDERS AGREE TO PREVENT TROUBLE AT ROYAL MEETING. Press Association Teli-eranr AUCKLAND. April 23. The jockeys’ dispute was before the Conciliation Council to-day. It was decided that no steps should he taken bv the Association either dii-ectlv or indirectlv to prevent any jockov riding at the Royal race meeting. The Jockeys’ Association agreed that tlie Association would do its utmost to prevent any trouble As far as jockeys were, concerned the meeting would he carried out successfully. As to the dispute between the horse owners and jockeys this will he heard in Wellington on June 10. A deputation of jockeys subsequentlv waited on Mr. Massey, •who said he would do his utmost- to assist the men to obtain their legitimate rights.
