BAKERS’ STRIKE IN BRITAIN.
SERIOUS POSITION IN MANY TOWNS. CROWDS FIGHT FOR BREAD. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON. August 6. There is scarcely a loaf of bread in Liverpol shops. Tho Lord Mayor lias convened an urgent meeting of trade unionists to arrange for the supply of bread, co-operating with food officials. Thousands are without bread at Ilford, and supplies at/Wrexham have been pooled and oistributed from the Guildhall. Bread at Chester is conveyed to the Market Hall and sold to waiting women and children. Crowds at Blackpool fought for bread. LONDON. August •r The conference failed to settle the night work dispute, but co-operative societies conceded tho demands, .and five thousand employed in these concerns were ordered to resume work.
