A London cable message states that the Bishop of Oxford (the Right Rev. Charles Gore) has resigned.

Mr. A. C. Turnbull, Inspector of the Lands and Survey Department, has been appointed secretary to the Public Sendee Commision. Air. Turnbull has been at the Front for about three years and lias not yet returned.—Press Association.

Mr. W. D. Lysnar left for the South last night. He is booked to address several important meetings in opposition to National Prohibition. Mr Lysnar speaks in the Town Hall at Wellington on Wednesday night, and in the Town Hall, Auckland, on Friday evening. He expects to return to Gisborne on Sunday.

The death on Saturday of Mr. Henry McKay was not unexpected, as he had been in failing health for many months past. He was very well-known in the district, where lie had resided since-the-early 70 s. The deceased gentleman was_ deeply read, an interesting conversationalist, -and was noted for the care and attention which he devoted to all duties entrust ted to him. In the eariy years of his residence in this district be was a member of the commercial staff of the Herald, and later for some time editor of that journal. He then entered into business and subsequently filled a number of public positions including for som.e time the secretary- . ship of the HosDital and Charitable Aid Board and the clerkship of the >: Pouawa, Whataivpoko, and Kaiti Road Boards. The deceased was very well versed in local body 1&Y- „ in later years he was prominent in Government and pmmcipal elections either as returning officer or poll clerk. > Mr McKay was one of the pioneers... of ‘ tho Druids Lodge. He leaves a widow and grown-up family,, for whom much sympathy will he felt. -
