HIS MAJESTY’S,
The huge audience at His Majesty’s last night was delighted boyoiul bounds with the big star pictures— George Walsh in “High Finance” and Valeslcr. Turatt in “The Straight Way.” Mr Walsh plays the role of Preston Platt, a spendthrift, who, because lie is threatened, hires as a valet with a scientist about to go west to explore a deserted mine. On the trip ho meets Patricia West (Doris Pawn), a young girl, who, assert woman’s rights became private secretary with the same scientist. To show his father that he has some business ability ho “salts” the abandoned mine, starts a run on the stock and sells it to his father for 100,GOO dollars. When Ins father arrives and sees he has been bounced Preston leaves to mako Patricia Ins bride having netted a nice fortune from the mine deal. The second star is another Fox Feature entitled “The Straight Way.” Maury Madicon’s husband, John misunderstands her relations with another man, and casts Tier from him. Heart-broken Mary leaves her little baby daughter with a sister, and goes out to make her way in the world. M hen J ohn Madison reads, some days later that Mary has been killed m a tram wreck, he takes the baby and raises her. Later lie married again. Many years later, Mary learns that John has been elected the Governor of his State. She sees an opportunity to get revenge on him through his daughter. Marion, whom sue thinks in the child of his other wife, who has died. Book seats for to-night at the Londan Music Shop to save disappointment.
EVERYBODY’S. •'LITTLE RED DECIDES.” •‘Little Barbara Connolly, recognised as one of the cleverest, brightest and youngest screen stars completely captivated the patrons to Everybody’s last night, when she appeared as the orphan child in “Little Rod Decides.” This Triangle production is one of appealing situation's and makes a most pathetic story. _ “Little Red’s” father having died, the child wanders forth, and is found by some rough but kind-hearted ranchers. The orphan is taken to the owner of th e ranch, a bachelor, who decides to do the best he can for her. A Chinese cook becomes nurse and guardian, and Little Red wins the heart of all. There is consternation when sh o becomes ill. and a problem arises when the doctor declares that her real need is a mother’s loving care. The men draw lots as to who should get married and so provide' the mother for the darling of the ranch. Even then there are difficulties to be met, and in the end the decision is loft to “Little Red” herself. The play provides humorous and touching scenes and the little queen of the ranch is enthroned in every heart. The little, orphan’s part is taken by Barbara Connolly, the child wonder of the screen. “The Great Secret” serial (episode 15) is a chapter throbbing with interest all through, whilst the other supports received good applause. This programme will he. shown again, today. Reserved seats may bo booked at Miller’s Corner.
THE PALACE. “THE WOMAN IN WHITE.” “The Woman in White,” _ a Patlie picturisation of Wilkie Collins’ masterpiece, with the talented Florence la liadie as tbe heroine, proved the magnet to attract a splendid house to the Palace last night. It may be described os a classic of mystery and melodrama. “The Woman in White” is a story of intrigue in which an innocent woman is made to suffer untold agonies by being forced into marriage with a criminal who is only desirous of obtaining her great fortune. After her marriage, against which she was warned by a halfwitted girl, “Laura” .is removed to an asylum and the dead body of the unfortunate girl who warned her against the marriage is substituted! for Laura’s. But friends discover the character of the husband and his designs on Laura’s property and the tangle is solved, the end being quite ,i happy affair without a.ny undue straining after effect. Florence la Radio appeared in the dual role of “Ann ” the half-witted girl, and Laura. It .is a seven-reel feature, in which the photography is perfect. .Episode No 9 of ,‘<Tho Mystery of the Double Cross,” which ha's many enthusiastic followers received warm approval and fully equalled any oi the preceding chapters.
