U.S. TRANSPORT SUNK.
MISHAP AT HOBOKEN. Australian and N.Z. Gable Association NEW YORK. October 15. An American transport sank at a pier at Hoboken. The troops were rescued. Spies are suspected. It is feared that thirty or forty of the crew may be lost. ENEMY PLOT SUSPECTED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October 16, 11.45 p.m.) NEW YORK,' October 15. Later: —The troops escaped from the sinking transport in Hoboken harbor in their night clothes. It is said that- the ship was undergoing repairs hut there is little doubt it was the result of an enemy plot. Three decks are now above water and the keel is resting on the mud. Details of the occurrence are withheld and troops are guarding the vessel. A gang of mechanics were working when the accident occurred. It i s ” announced that there is no loss- of life though 309 troops wore aboard.
