THE RED CROSS FUND APPEAL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —“Chloroformed with this wretched patriotism,” was an expression recently used as descriptive of the farmers of Poverty Bay. It was a great compliment to them. , I recall the expression with the confident hope that this same patriotism and constant goodwill of the farmers towards patriotic objects will move them to support the efFort that is being made on both days of .the Show in aid of the Red Cross. An excellent lunch, together with morning and afternoon tea, is being provided by a committee of ladies. All that is required of the farmers and their friends from town is that they should eat th e launch (I reiterate its excellence!) and entertain their lady friends. to morning and afternoon tea. So agreeable a way of helping a good cause only needs to be known in order to he supported with hearty goodwill. , ... This letter.
