WHITE STAR LINER SUNK.
FIGHTS U-BOAT 24 HOURS. OXLT 11 DEATHS REPORTED. Australian arid N.Z. Cable Assoelatior LONDON. July 24. The White Star liner Justitia has been sunk off the Irish coast. Four hundred people from her landed in Ireland. She was outward bound and fought a U-boat for twenty-four hours. Only eleven people were killed.

During the Justitia*s 24 hours’ fight with the submarine ten torpedoes were fired. The first wrecked the engine-room and stopped the ship. Another was also effective. Four were exploded by gunfire from the ship. No passengers were lost. Ten of the crew are dead.
A REMARKABLE EPISODE.
VESSEL REPEATEDLY ATTACKED, j Australian and N.Z OoJbts Association (Received July 25. 11.20 p.xn.) LONDON, July 24. The Justitia was sunk off the north coast of Ireland on Saturday. Eleven of the crew were killed by various torpedo explosions, but the remainded were safely landed. The German submarine authorities say that the Justitia was provided with large steel nets to prevent torpedoes from reaching her sides and that-’she had often been attacked by submarines without result. Survivors say the sea was calm. Tlte coast was just out of sight on Friday afternoon when a tremendous explosion shook the vessel from ond to end. , , There was not the slightest panic. The crew speedily mustered on deck and preparations were made to tow the vessel to port. ' A tug was alongside when ri couple more torpedoes were fired. These missed, passing between the tug and the Justitia. Hie submarine made further attempts before nightfall and duung the nmht to complete the destruction of the liner without success. The final attempt was made at 8 o’clock Saturday morning, when toe Justitia was U 1 tow. - + struck the engine room and, almost simultaneously another penetrated the forehold and it become obvious flint her fate was sealed. The crew of 700 men were ordered to abandon the liner, winch remained afloat until 2 o’clock the somvors reaching port at nightfall.
