The captain of the Makambo sent, a wireless message to-day that the vessel was still hard and fast on the rocks and all efforts to re-float her had failed. The steamer In dun a has been despatched from Sydne v to assist in salvage operations. Midj Rendon, of “Wilton ’ Ivhyber Road, Auckland, a passenger by the ■Makambo was drowned, supposedly by the- upsetting of a boat m the surf while the passengers were landing. She was returning from a holiday trip;to Norfolk Island.
