MR COATES OPENS CAMPAIGN

GREYMOUTIJ, May 20. Mr T. E. Coates-delivered the first address of the campaign for the Grey seat on Saturday at Barrytown. After stating that lie favoured the Government’s win-the-war efrorts and conscriptioiij he urged that all elegible single men should be sent before married men. He trenchantly criticised the Government’s home policy in regard to railways and land. He favoured the Government taking over the Wellington-Lyttelton ferry service to terminate annoyance and expense in the Union Company’s steamers failing totoonnect at Lyttelton with the West Coast express..
