BUSINESS IN COMMITTEE.
ANOTHER PROTEST FROM OR. HILL.
Or Hill was up against Committee work again at the Borough Council meeting last evening, the proposal which called: forth a protest from him being to take the appointment of a Sanitary Inspector in Committee. This was suggested by Or Munns. Or Hill expressed a general objection to Committee work.
It was explained by Cr Munns that he had no objection to dealing with the matter in open Council but it might prejudice the position of’some local applicants. Cr Hill still emphatically objected, considering that the work should be done in the open and above board. Cr Miller (heatedly) :■ Here’s a councillor who says .he desires to do business in the open and above board. There is no other councillor who listens to more complaints outside the Council than Cr Hill.
Cr Munns (protesting): I object. Or Hill: That’s nasty. The chairman called councillors to order an<t Cr Wauchop remarked that there was no need to get heated. 1 Cr Munns again remarked that he was willing to take the matter in the open, and referred to a ‘ fad of a councillor.” Or Hill: lam absolutely thunderstruck at the attitude of Cr Munns. He wants one thing one moment and another the next. He is wabbling about, standing on a wire waiting to fall on the right side. (Laughter). The chairman - Order, please. Or Munns: Let bin- go. Cr Hill: He said I had a fad. He has something better.—A good balancing trick. (Laughter).
Cr Munns. I did not refer to you at all. You always take up things the wrong way. The Council eventually divided on the question of-committee versus open Council and the supporters of committee work were in a majority. Cr Hill left his chair for the time the Council was in committee.
