(Admiralty Per AVireless Press.) (Received Jan. 28, 5.5 p.m.) ' LONDON, Jan. 28. A Russian official message says : Between the Tirul swamp and the river Aa we took the offensive and dislodged the enemy. AVe took some prisoners, but withdrew under German pressure. AA 7 e advanced a mile in the direction of Kalnem, but fell back before counter-attacks. General Ivanhkevitch, who led the first line-, was woundad but remained at his post.
RIGA FRONT REINFORCED
Australian am 1 N.Z, Cable Assn. (Received Jan. 28. 5.5 p.m.) ROME, Jan. 28. Advices from Petrogracl report great reinforcements on the Riga front. General Hindenburg is personally directing the enemy’s operations. A later report says:—After a heavy bombardment, the Germans were beaten back eastward of Kalacem, with heavy losses. AVe liberated gas at Alitau, causing a great German panic. ,
