Mr. H. Kenway was passenger for South last night.

Mr. J A. Rosewarne, who is to stao-e’manage the amateur production of “San Toy” in Gisborne, arrived here on Saturday, held a rehearsal, and left for South again last night.

Wiiile presiding at . the Supreme Court on Saturday afternoon, His Honor Mr. Justice Cooper received the sad news that his youngest son, Cau’ain Cooper, of the Royal Flying Corn", had been killed “somewhere in France." Much sympathy will no extended to His Honor and lainiL m the sad loss sustained by them.

Mr. J. B. Thompson, Government Drainage Engineer, left by the Arahura last night on Ids return to Wellington. Mr. Thompson visited Gisborne with a i iew to advising on hood prevention, and he made an extensive inspection of the Yv aipaoa river, as well as interviewed numerous settlers.

Mr. AY. H. Waldron, of thd Ma-onie Hotel staff, left with the 18th Reinforcements last night, and prior to departing* he received a wristlet watch from his fellow-workers. _ The City Band also presented him with a surety razor and a group photo of the Ba.no - The presentation was made by C. j. Bollen, and cheers were given for Mr. Waldron by the Band members last night as the boat left tne wharf. Mr. Waldron has been an honorary member of the Band tor some considerable time past.
