GISBORNE HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.
RECENT DIFFICULTIES
MINISTER AND INSPECTORGENERAL. •
TO VISIT GISBORNE
The Minister of Public Health (the Hon. G. W. Russell) and the Inspec-tor-General of Hospitals (Dr. Valiutino) intend* visiting Gisborne this week. ,
It i s expected that the Hon. Mr. Russell and Dr. Valintino will arrive m Gisborne by the Mdnowai to-mor-row night to investigate recent matters in connection with the Gisborne Hospital which have been the subject of considerable publicity during the past few weeks. It is not known what the exact nature of tine visit will be, but no doubt the Minister and the Inspector-General will make a thorough investigation into all the matters arising out of the recent “enforced resignation,” as it has been termed, of Nurse Higgins, and the reappointment of Dr. Kahlenberg as superintendent of the Hospital. Speaking to a “Times” reporter yesterday, the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald said that lie believed Mr Russell would arrive in Gisborne this week, and would look into tlio several matters connected with tine wounded soldiers who have returned to Gisborne. This is one of the duties which Mr Russell is ably performing at the present time, in addition to his ordinary work as Minister of Public Health.
The visit of Dr. Valintino will be of especial interest after the discussions which took place at the meeting the Hospital Board last week.
