FINANCIAL CABLES.

BANK OF ENGLAND RETURNS

(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received Feb. 4, 10.40 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 4.

The Bank of England returns show the stock of gold, coin, and bullion to be £52,289,000; reserve, £36,939 000 ; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 23.55 per cent. The notes in circulation total £34,199,000; public deposits, £58,246*000; other deposits, £98,584,000; Government securities, £32,839,000; other securities, £105,140,000.' MONEY MARKET. The Bank of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 4£ per cent., on January 22 it was reduced) to 4 per cent., and on January 28 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was raised to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to 5 per cent., at which rate it now stands. The Bank of France rate is 5 per cent., as against 4 per cent, prior to tho war. OPEN MARKET RATE. The open market discount rate for 3 months’ bills is 5j per cent., as compared witih 5 3-10 per cent, last week. Short loans are discounted at 41 pel- cent. CONSOLS AND WAR LOANS. Imperial Consols, which last week were quoted at £59, are now quoted at £SB 17s 6d. The 31 per cent. War Loan’is quoted at £BB 2s 6d, as against £B9 os last week. The 4f per cent. War Loan is at £97, as compared with £95 a week ago. COLONIAL STOCKS. Following are the quotations for Colonial Government stocks compared with those ruling a week ago.
