PUBLIC FINANCE.

IN A VERY SATISFACTORY CONDITION. INCREASED REVENUE. * REVIEW BY THE FINANCE MINISTER. (Press Association Telegram.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. The Minister of Finance (Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) informed a “Post” representative to-day that the increase in the consolidated revenue for the ten months ending January 31, 1916, over the ten months of the previous year was £924,260. 'For the twelve months ending January 31, 1916, .the increase in revenue, by comparison with the previous year was £906,493, and for the month of January last the increase in the revenue over January, 1915, was £128,740. Sir Joseph Ward said he was not able to-day to Sav anything about the expenditure, as he had not had the returns yet, but as soon as they were available he would supply the figures. So far as the revenue was concerned the increase was eminently satisfactory, and if the general consolidated expenditure had been kept down, the country was on the way to a very satisfactory condition, as far as public finance vas concerned.
