ROMANCE OF UNTOUCHED FORTUNE.
A romance in the life of the Rt. Hon. C P. Villiers, the statesman who represented Wolverhampton in Parliament for 45 years and died in IS9S, is recalled iby the death recently of Ur Hamilton Fane Gladwin, of Seven Springs Gloucestershire. Air Villiers, who was born in 1802, was in his youth and middle age a strikingly handsome young man. His personality attracted the only child and heiress of Mr John Mellisli, of Hammels Park, Hertfordshire, who fa'l ardently in love with him. The affection was not reciprocated, but nevertheless on her deatli Miss Mollis made Air Villiers her heir to the Hammels estate. Ho declined to touch the fortune, and lived on his pension as a former Cabinet Minister At his deatli he passed the fortune intact to Mr Fane Gladwin, who had married AI iss Sophia Alellish, a distant kinswoman of the lady who had honored Air Villiers with her affection and her wealth.
